SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
1. 1 RULES
1.1. The Milwaukee Bay Women’s Offshore Series will be governed by the rulesas defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing(RRS).
1.2. Boatsshall comply with theUS SAILING prescription to the ISAF Special Regulations… 5.01.2: “US SAILING prescribes that all personnel on deck shall wear personal floatation while starting and finishing without exception, and at all other times except when the Captain of the boat directs that it may be set aside.”
2. NOTICES TO COMPETITORS
2.1. Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice boards located at:
2.1.1. South Shore Yacht Club, on the South wall of the derrick house.
2.1.2. Milwaukee Yacht Club, on the notice board located at the front entrance.
2.1.3. Milwaukee Community Sailing Center, on the bulletin board and in the main office.
3. CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
3.1. Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted before 1800 on the day before it will take effect, except that any change to the schedule of races will be posted by 1800 two (2)days before it will take effect.
4. SIGNALS MADE ASHORE
4.1. Signals made ashore will be displayed at the MYC, SSYC, and MCSC flagmasts.
4.2. Whenflag AP is displayed ashore, ‘1 minute’ is replaced with ‘not less than 30 minutes’ in the race signal AP.

5.2. 5.2 The scheduled time of the warning signal for the race each day is 1820.
6. CLASS FLAG
6.1. The class flag will be the code pennant 1.
7. RACING AREA
7.1. The racing area will be on Lake Michigan easterly of the Milwaukee Harbor Main Gap.
8. THE COURSES
8.1. The diagrams below (COURSE DIAGRAMS)show the courses, including the approximate angles between legs, the order in which marks are to be passed, and the side on which each mark is to be left. The approximate leg lengthto the first mark will be displayed in NM on the race committee signal boat.
8.2. No later than the warning signal, the race committee signal boat will display the approximate compass bearingand distancefrom the starting line to the first mark.
9. MARKS
9.1. Marks will be orange inflatables, spheres, or cylinders with or without spars.
9.2. New marks, as provided in instruction CHANGE OF THE POSITION OF THE NEXT MARKwill have a black band.
9.3. A race committee boat signaling a change of course is a mark as provided in instruction CHANGE OF THE POSITION OF THE NEXT MARK.
10. THE START
10.1. The starting line will be between a staff or halyard displaying an orange flag on the race committee boat at the starboard end and the port end starting mark.
10.2. If there are less than three (3) boats starting, the race shall be abandoned
11. CHANGE OF THE POSITION OF THE NEXT MARK
11.1. To change the next leg of the course, the race committee will lay a new mark (or move the finishing line) and remove the original mark as soon as practicable. When in a subsequent change a new mark is replaced, it will be replaced by an original mark.
11.2. Boats shall pass between the race committee boat signaling the change of the next leg and the nearby mark, leaving the mark to port and the race committee boat to starboard. This changes rule 28.1.
12. THE FINISH
12.1. The finish line will be between a staff or halyard displaying an orange flag on the race committee boat in position at the finishing line and a nearby mark or buoy.
12.2. The race committee finish boat may display a flashing light after dusk.
13. PENALTY SYSTEM
13.1. The Scoring Penalty, rule 44.3, will apply. The penalty will be the greater of two (2) places or 20% defined by rule 44.3(c).
14. TIME LIMITS
14.1. Time limit issunset timeon the day of the race.
14.2. Boats failing to finish within the time limit will be scored Did Not Finish (DNF). This changes rule 35 and A4.1.
15. PROTESTS AND REQUESTS FOR REDRESS
15.1. Protests forms are available at the host yacht club. Protests shall be delivered there within the protest time limit to (in order of preference) the race committee, the fleet captain, or the scorer.
15.2. The protest time limit is 90 minutes after the time of the docking of the race committee finish boat. This changes rules 61.3 and 62.2.
15.3. The protest committee will hear protests in approximately the order of receipt at the next scheduled hearing.
15.4. Parties will be notified within a reasonable time as to date and time of hearing.
16. SCORING
16.1. Rule A9will apply.
16.2. Six (6) races are scheduled of which one (1) race is required to be completed to constitute a series.
16.3. When fewer than 5 races have been completed, a boat’s series scorewill be the total of her race scores.
16.4. When 5 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
17. SAFETY REGULATIONS
17.1. A boat that retires from a race shall notify the race committee as soon as possible before the end or protest time.
18. RADIO COMMUNICATION
18.1. A boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones. The race committee and racing boats will monitor VHF channel 72 for MYC RC and channel 69for SSYC RC.
19. PRIZES
19.1. Prizes will be awarded to each boat placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rdin the season series.
